Zusammenfassung: Abstract

This research focuses on the wall painting from Hannes H. Wagner (1971) in the inner courtyard of the health center “Dorothea Erxleben” in Halle-Neustadt. Extensive investigations and analysis revealed the reasons for the damages of the painting, which are mainly due to the explosive effect of corrosive metal inserts near the surface. In addition the investigations and analysis proved, that the later applied synthetic polymer coat resulted in critical dampness and microbiological growth in the upper layers and were harmful to the painting. A concept has been developed based on the investigations and analysis for the treatment of the causes of the damage. The main emphasises was the development of a procedure for the repair of the oxide layer of the metal inserts and in the evaluation of suitable materials and methods for the reduction of the plastic film on the porous mineral painting surface. Further a variety of materials and methods to adjust the mark layers, integrate the defects and to seal the torn parts were tested. Practical aspects of the required conservation treatments have been carried out in a sample area of the painting. Final considerations for preserving the wall painting are presented.
