Zusammenfassung: Two Gothic panel paintings from 1460/70, painted on both sides are badly fragmented. Large-scales losses of ground and paint-layers were caused by vandalism, storage in unregulated environment and previous restorations together with a reduction of the wooden support; all combine to detract from the high-quality paintings with originate from the Upper Austria-Bavarian region.
To gain information about the pictures, examinations with X-ray and Infra-red were undertaken. The concept for restoration of both panels encompasses their conservation, re-restoration and the rejoining. Subsequently, a new framing-system enabling a flexible stabilization of the panels was developed. In the future, the panels should be consciously exhibited as preserved fragments. Methods and ethics of historic and current aspects of treating lacuane are examined and discussed. Research of the provenance and iconography are presented.
