Zusammenfassung: Abstract

A plate of basalt stone with the relief-engraving of the hunting of a wild bull is the central object of this paper. The plate is dated in the 10th / 11th century B.C. and it decorated the entrance facade of a palast build by the Aramaic prince Kapara on the Tell Halaf, a hill at the source of the Habur river in northern Syria, near today’s border to Turkey. The German diplomat Max von Oppenheim discovered it 1899 in an excellent condition.
Natives misused and destroyed the orthostat; today it is incomplete and fragmentary preserved. The plate was adjudged 1927 to Syria; the fragments are now worked in a reconstruction which is exhibited in the National Museum in Aleppo, Syria.
The objects that were adjudged to Max von Oppenheim were exhibited in Berlin but were destroyed during World War II. Among the 27000 fragments, which are now being restored in Berlin, three pieces could be identified as parts of the plate of the hunting of the wild bull.
This paper discusses the problems dealing with the fragments of this plate which are distributed in two locations, most of them in a disadvantageous reconstruction in Syria, and presents a realistic proposal for its presentation at an exhibition.
