Zusammenfassung: The thesis focusses on a pianoharp with elaborate engravings in black lacquered wood made by Christian Dietz in Brussels (ca. 1890). The instrument, which still is in original condition, belongs to the peculiarities of musical instrument building, but it has considerably meaning in the history of development of keyboard instruments. Due to numerous transports and bad storage conditions during the Second World War and afterwards the pianoharp by its substance and appearance currently presents itself in a critical state. After an insight to the history of development of this musical instrument a technological examination is carried out with special consideration to the composition and design of the surface. Based on the results of examinations a concept for conservation and restoration is subsequently created, whereby the emphasis is placed on the preservation of the original substance. The great variety of materials that had to be considered posed a notable challenge. The reestablishment of playability will be touched on in a short excurs, but it is not considered for the conception.
