Zusammenfassung: The Verchen minster, located in West Pomerania (district of Demmin) was about to have a conservation of its medieval mural paintings at the end of the 19th century, but that was postponed for reasons of economy and the commenced exposure was covered with linen. An interim measure of protection became a permanent occlusion leading to the painting’s being buried in oblivion. So the thesis was motivated by the will to undo this.
The figurative representations, embedded in a frame system and exposed more than 100 years ago, display Christian motives such as the walk to Jerusalem, Last Supper and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Besides a detailed inventory, the thesis’ main focus was to develop a conservation concept for the medieval mural paintings. The necessary measures for the conservation of the frames and brackets were worked out as in the form of a "feasibility study".
