Zusammenfassung: The charakteristics of the material gypsum, its processing and the additives used, influence the properties of the stucco produced. Consequently this has led to the development of many different methods of application as well as many types of stucco.
Water in combination with salts can damage stucco most severly, as can be seen with the damaged stucco both inside the “Liechtenstein Palais” in Vienna and inside the “Hofkirche” in the Würzburg Residence.
Selected agents for consolidation and for the conversion of salts are tested concerning effect and efficiency. The trials were done at artificilly damaged stucco specimen, produced for that purpose.
Finally, the most adequate agent will be used on damaged samples of original stucco from the buildings mentioned above, in order to proof its efficiency.
