Zusammenfassung: The consolidation of damp and salt loaded plaster represents a difficult problem in the field of conservation. Using the example of the subterranean, medieval mikvah in Worms, the possibilities and limitations of a preservation of the heavily damaged, original plaster were studied. Assessments and tests to determine their suitability for the use at the object were carried out on known, commercially available preservatives and on literature based backfillings and adhesive mortars. That followed investigations of the building climate properties of the materials and the reduction of gypsum crusts. The findings of the tests were evaluated using the results of a two-year climate record in the mikvah and specific situations of the object. The result was, that for a realisation of a lasting preservation of materials in the mikvah, which is open to the public, further, interdisciplinary investigations as well as accompanying
