| Zusammenfassung: | The staining and dyeing of woven cane (Rattan) is analyzed by a series of tests. Black and brown canes from two original tubular steel frame chairs (MR20) designed by Mies van der Rohe between 1927 and 1931 act as guides. Naturally, the woven cane appears light in color, it has an epidermis whose imperfections and general texture makes it very difficult for the staining agents to penetrate the cane. The objective of this project is to imitate the aged color while maintaining the inhomogeneous surface characteristic to achieve a high quality reconstruction of the MR20 weave. Besides, explanations regarding the anatomy of the material and the history of the MR20, examinations and analyses of the original material of the MR20 are worked on, to gain knowledge regarding the historic stain and dying agents. |
