Zusammenfassung: In the chancel of the Landeck parish church in Tyrol, two Baroque tombs were uncovered during archaeological excavations in 2012. One of the tombs contained leather vestments, the examination of which is the focus of this thesis. Since the readability of the objects is severely limited due to deformations, methods for reshaping are discussed and tested. The presence of fungus on parts of the vestments poses an immediate threat to the objects. In order to create a concept to eliminate the fungus, various treatment methods are presented and discussed in terms of their efficacy and applicability to leather. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of ionizing radiation. The effects of gamma rays on leather are explored using new and archaeological leather samples. Mold cultures are subjected to different doses of radiation in order to determine the minimum dose lethal to the fungus.
