Zusammenfassung: The diploma thesis examines a colossal wooden tomb in the collegiate church of Bad Gandersheim which was built in 1686 for two sisters of the aristocratic family of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

The examination paper contains the technological analysis of the version and a concept of conservation for the version.

The technological analysis revealed that the monument had two appearances since it was erected. While the first original baroque version consisted of a white lead layer with some gilded parts, the second version visible today was applied in the 19th century following the color combination of the baroque version. In the course of time the metal leaf gilded parts of the second version changed to green because of the high humidity in the church room. Currently the version of the monument is in a very bad condition.

The consolidation of the version is the main topic of the concept of conservation. Several examinations and experiments have been made to confirm this concept. Proposals for the improvement of the climatic conditions and the consolidation of the version have been worked out.
