Zusammenfassung: This thesis deals with an tympanum over the south portal of the Liebfrauenkirche in Halberstadt. It is a representation of a Madonna on a throne with two female saints from the middle ages. It has often been repainted and in 1930 it was saturated with a wax solution. The throne and the nimbus of the madonna as well as the two other figures are made of plaster and have a metal covering. The arch itself is on the outside wall of the church.
An examination of the inventory and the cause of damage were carried out. Finally tests in order to flatten and stabilise the warped loose paint layers follows. Within the scope of the tests the possibility of thickening of Parloid B 27 was investigated. Further laboratory tests dealt with the stabilisation with plaster and the possibility of filling caverties in the painted plaster parts.
Finally a possible restoration plan for preservation is worked out.
