Laura Peters: Detection and Investigation of a mongolian Silk-Garment from a Cravice-grave of the 11th Century. back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:
Abstract: Archaeological finds from tombs in the Altai Mountains were sent to
Germany for scientific treatment as part of a Mongolian-German research
project. Among the objects recovered was a silk caftan from the 10-12th
century. This thesis analyzes the gown using research methods commonly
used in textile conservation. These include the reconstruction of the cut,
determination of the weave, and an analysis of the fiber materials. Based
on the results of the analysis and a comparison with similar objects the
caftan could be placed in a cultural and historical context. Aside of
describing the state of the gown, a concept for its long-term conservation
was developed.
