Abstract: Waxseals, which are connected with documents made of parchment, are a reliable source of medieval history and therefore an important part of cultural heritage.
This thesis shows, that the conservation of seals for the future can easily be done by using preventive measures like the correct storage and handling as well as proper storage materials.
Apart form possible causes of damage, old materials for packing and their influence on the condition of waxseals, present-day protection materials and methods are discribed.
The thesis concludes with a schedule in which concrete advices for the storage material are given. It should simplify the choise for the proper packing material an method for waxseals, which have a certain size, type and condition of care in vertical or horizontal position of storage.
