| Abstract: | The art of the 19th century is generally compared with many different artistic styles and damages, caused by technical problems. This is demonstrated by two sacral pictures, the triptych of the Duchess Agnes of Saxony-Altenburg in Hummelshain and a scene of St. George killing the dragon by a pupil of the Weimar School of painters (Weimarer Malerschule) Edmund Herger in Rittersdorf (both Thuringia). Artistic education and intention, influenced by theological aspects and damages by craquelure and splatters of wax were examined, also regarding potential causes and characteristics. |
