Overview:

Abstract: For eliminating the fungal infestation determined on the Holy Bodies in the monastery museum Heiligkreuztal by Aspergillus glaucus, A. restrictus, Penicillium chrysogenum and
Geotrichum sp. different measures are examined. The fungicide Preventol CMK (Parachlorometakresol) is tested in two different concentrations and solvents. In order to exclude damage to the baroque decoration and the natural dyes, modern textiles, dyed
according to historical prescriptions, an original piece of decoration (consisting of metal,
paper, glass) and untreated beeswax are tested regarding the compatibility with the fungicide
solutions in the gaseous phase. For analysing color changes a spectral photometer is used.
Substance damages are determined with different microscopic analyses.
Additionally the climate conditions in the museum and the adjacent Münster, the former location of the shrines, are recorded, in order to detect building damages and to develop possibilities for improving the museum climate, which prevents a progressing of the mould infestation to a large extent. Beside climatic data loggers, a surface thermometer and a
thermal IR-camera are used for surveying the temperature conditions at the building walls.
