Overview:

Abstract: Subject of the diploma thesis is an ashvessel from the Kingdom of Siam (now Kingdom of Thailand) and its technological examination regarding conservation and restoration. The vessel is decorated with a complex multicoloured, reflecting glas mosaic.
The analysis of the barely researched materials and manufacturing techniques of siamese craftsmanship provides new knowledge in this context. The vessel is extremely fragile and heavily damaged. Due to the very poor condition instant conservative treatment is urgently required. Consequently the thesis results in presenting a treatment plan in order to preserve the current state and prevent further damage and deterioration. Priority is the consolidation of the decorative composition built up from glas mosaic, a layer of cement and several layers of glue. The effectiveness of the applied measures is determined in various test series.
