Overview:
Abstract: The document is composed of three parts. The first part gives basic information for the understanding of the methodology of the research and the utilized samples. The explained and applied methods of identification of material are the ultraviolet and visual light reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis-reflectance-spectroscopy) and the thin layer chromatography.

The objective of this research was a prediction about the operability of the UV-vis-reflectance-spectroscopy to identify colours on tinctured surfaces (wood). For this the UV-vis spectra of surfaces of marqueted room panelling of the Brothers Spindler in Neues Palais Potsdam were compared with other spectra from stained wooden plate of the university of applied sciences Hildesheim and the reconstruction of a Spindler marquetry. These results were checked by thin layer chromatography and discussed in the second part of the research. Pure dyes and material from the identified stained plates and parts of a reconstruction were the references for the thin layer chromatography

As it turned out, almost half of the colours identified with the help of UV-vis-reflectance-spectroscopy could not be approved by the thin layer chromatography. It is noticeable that the search for spectra from the spectra-libraries delivered satisfying results of those parts with well preserved colours (backside). But this was not the case for the checked pieces from the forefront. According to the received results UV-vis-reflectance-spectroscopy can be used in combination with other analytical methods. However, the results of the UV-vis-reflectance-spectroscopy should not be used without a check with other procedures

The third part of the document is the annex and consists of all minutes of the proceedings of the analytical methods.
