Overview:

Abstract: The present methods used in the site research and conservation of castles, i. e. excavation and conservation of the researched construction, led in the past to great damage, due to inadequate conservational maintenance. The documentation of the excavation and examination of the castle ruin of Holte, near Bissendorf, in the municipal area of Osnabrück, describes the inventarisation method followed by a conservation concept, based on the information pertaining to damage and damage causes, gained by use of the described method. A method of „passive“ conservation will be presented, which enables intervention into the original substance and therefore the following conservational maintanance to be reduced to the minimum.
