Overview:

Abstract: The operational model of a carousel palace by Paul Stephan from „Städtische Museen Zwickau“ was built between 1913 and 1943. The Grand Carrousel Noblesse by Hugo Haase served as an example for the creation of the tiered carousel with front facade.
It is a so called salon carousel with organ, refreshment bar and seating-accomodations. Visitors were able to be amused as well as have a ride.
The carousel consists of two levels that are equiped with rocking gondolas and rocking horses. The gorgeous ride is illuminated by various lights that are reflected by countless mirrors. Walls and ceilings are decorated with paintings.
The diploma thesis starts with the collection of all available facts about this presumably unique carousel model and its example, the Grand Caroussel Noblesse. To complement the introduction of the thesis it contains additional information about the history of fairground attractions. After a detailed documentation of the current condition follows a parts catalogue (photographs and written form). Extra listings are included; rework and damages devided into mechanics, electricals, arrangements and ornamental painting .
Based on the research a detailed conservation and restoration concept is provided. The concept focuses on a fully functional carousel in a visually aesthetic condition.
