Sonja Schmitz: The mechanically movable `Figure of Christ` Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: has been the property of LETTER- Stiftung, Köln. The object is a polychrome wooden scultpure with revolving arms and legs. The head, as well as the bloodflow of the side wound, were originally movable by a mechanism on the inside of the figure. The small crucifix, with its unusual construction and size, represents a unique image. It is dated from the 16th to 17th century and has never been studied. The main request for this work was to record the material and function of this figure. Movements are reconstructed and considerations to the original context applied. The condition is explained and catalog of measures created.
