Abstract: The middle gothic, freestanding tabernacle from the church of St. Martin in Oberwesel has a position in German medieval art history of national significance. Its architectural version and its premium paintwork make it to one of the finest examples of medieval panel painting on stone. The architectural version and original reconstruction have been changed during the last five centuries due to the prevailing tastes. Today’s work shows a partiel reconstruction of the medieval appearance, which took place after the uncovering in 1914. the work’s aim is – besides the categorization in art history – to create an analysis and documentation on the tabernacle, which will be the basis for the drafting up of a conservation
