Overview:

Abstract: The theme of this Master thesis are two polychromatic wooden objects from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. George in Delligsen, Holzminden. The wooden objects are a late gothic altar retable (from around 1490) and a neo-gothic altarpiece (from 1889).
The first section of this paper describes the historical environment of the objects, the church building with its fittings and the building and restoration history of the church.
In the main section of the paper the art history of the above-mentioned wooden objects and their technology are analysed as well as their condition, damage and the related reasons.
Prior to the treatment concept preventive measures (suggestions and recommendations) are made to improve the environment. Based on these recommendations conservation and restoration measures are established resulting in a treatment catalogue and a time frame. Closing off presentation possibilities of both objects are set up keeping in mind the conservation and liturgical aspects.
