Abstract: This paper concerns the use of chrome tanned leather for conservation purpose. Up to present usually vegetable tanned leather is used for restoration although this leather is least resistant to ageing then leathers with different types of tanning. Four different leathers, one dyed chrome tanned leather retanned with vegetable and synthetic tanning agents, one undyed vegetable tanned leather, one dyed and one undyed vegetable tanned leather which have been retanned with aluminium salts will be tested and compared for their physical an chemical qualitys before and after artificial ageeing as well as for their processability.
