Overview:

Abstract: The textile storage area of the Museum of Hamburg History, which was outsourced in 1986, is located at the top floor of a commercial school at Holstenwall in Hamburg. In term of both conservation and contruction the storage area is in poor condition. In this thesis a qualitative and quantitative condition study of the store room and a complete inventory of deposited textile objects is presented. Further, results are used to develop a practical concept for reconstruction and redesign of the storage. Therefore, specific conditions, that is location, kind of deposited objects, and budget as well as requirements for an appropriate storage of textiles of cultural and historical value are considered.
