Overview:

Abstract: So called “Dead-Shields” are commemorative plaques for deceased members of patrician families. A convolute of twelve such shields of the Nurembergian Löffelholtz family is for the most part untreated and stored inadequately in the depot of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg (GNM). In this work, the unframed, rectangular and painted wooden panels were first viewed under conservational aspects, followed by an appropriate treatment. Considerations of a hanging storage in the depot are based on this background, which lead to a viable solution for the GNM.
In addition, this bachelor’s thesis offers a collection of applicable ideas and solutions for the problem of hanging storage in general.
