Overview:

Abstract: Abstract English

The following thesis is engaged in the investigations of Prof. Dr. Peter Klein about boards of the same trees in Flemish panel paintings of the 17th century. The main question is where to find these panel painting supports. Are there boards from the same tree in one panel or in different paintings and what can one conclude from that, concerning the historic manufacture of panels and the attribution of a painting to an artist or a panel maker. For the interpretation of the data an interdisciplinary approach is used. The dendrochronological results are complemented by art historical research. The thesis will show, that boards from the same tree are not to equalize with belonging to the same workshop nor panel maker. Furthermore the discovery of boards from the same tree enables at timesa more precisely age determination and for this reason can help to reinforce or cancel attributions.
