Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This Master Thesis starts with the elaboration of the cultural history of the scenic wallpaper “Psyché et Cupidon”. The piece was produced by the manufactory Dufour in the year 1816 and belongs to the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum. The technological and scientific examination reveals the manufacturing technique (woodblock printing) and helps with identifying the materials used for the restoration and mounting within the last decades. This paper focuses on developing a conservation concept as well as the following performance of the projected measures. In order to find the right techniques for removing old retouching, backing the original paper, to consolidate the paint and retouch losses, several experiments are performed. One of the eight parts of the wallpaper was successfully restored during the master studies.
