Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The large-size photograph „Leuchtfeuer auf Hornum a/ Sylt“ originates from the estate of the Verkehrs- und Baumuseum Berlin and was stored in the photo archive of the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin. The photograph shows distinct soiling and mechanical injuries of the gelatine surface. A rip tears from the lower left corner to the middle, where it bifurcates. There are isolated holes as well as abrasion and compression perceptible, which expose the paper backing. The surface is damaged by indentions caused by onlying small pebbles. In the corners of the photograph red discolourations are apparent, in the middle there are visible bronwnings.

The goal of this bachelor thesis is the closing of the rip and the indentions on the previously cleaned gelatine surface. Through a test series it is discussed, if the red dicolourations can be dissolved with the aid of compresses. The conservation of the included passepartout is not part of the theoretical thesis, it is still recommended.
