Celia Catharina Mollmeier: Possible options for consolidation of schists - taking as example the Mönchehaus in Goslar Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The objective of the following master thesis is to achieve a structural consolidation of highly weathered schists through the application of an appropriate preservative agent, in order to conserve historical schists for long term. Using the example of the schists of the Mönchehaus, situated in Goslar preservative agents were tested in preliminary tests regarding their effects. The damages on the schists were mainly caused by increased air pollution, in combination with humidity.
According to the results of the preliminary tests the most appropriate ones were chosen for the following consolidation experiments.
The evaluation of the consolidations is made through visual and acoustic tests, water absorption test, drilling resistance measurement and microscopic examinations. In the end the results will be summarized and evaluated and the author gives a recommenda-tion for the conservation of schists, containing a prospect for the future.
