Overview:

Abstract: The intention of this paper is to work out possibilities of conservation for the oil-print “Taufe der Germanen durch Bonifatius” of the Bethlehemkirche Hannover Linden. This print is fully coated on a cardboard. The graphical techniques of oil-print and chromolithography are described as well as the presentation of conservation measures. Through these characteristics, an actual identification of the printing method will be made, followed by a short art-historical classification of the theme.

The produced mapping of the state of preservation allows for a fast survey of changes caused by aging and damage. The changes are listed in a table and possible causes, effects on the object and resulting conservation measures are clarified. In the course of this paper preservation measures are developed, resulting in two options: first, storage in order to conserve the Status Quo, second, public presentation in the church. The deformation of the object is regarded the specific problem.
