Emily Müller: The Oddy-Test and its significance for issues in paper conservation Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Oddy-Test analyses on damage caused by woolen felts are presented. The Results for woolen felts analyses in Oddy-Test lead to the conclusion that woolen felts can be categorized as "temporarily" useable. Further investigations analyzing lead white paper samples in contact with woolen felts show a change of the colour value after 48 hours. The categories, "unsuitable", "temporarily" and "permanent" cannot simply be adopted for a material but need interpretation in specific context of the analyzed object. Viscometry and UV-Vis-Spectroscopy are discussed as molecular methods for determination of paper condition.
