Silke Weber: Consolidation of glue-bound distemper wallpaintings – development of a procedure for polychromatic paintings using the example of Zwingli-Church in Berlin-Friedrichshain Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The consolidation of damaged, polychromatic glue-bound distemper wallpaintings is a difficult task. Starting by collecting theoretical background on this topic, the ability of different cellulose derivatives for consolidation of unbonded pigment layers has been tested based on samples. Furthermore, the influence of specific characteristics of pigments has been analysed theoreticaly and experimentaly.

The intention was to develop an indivdual approach for the re-binding of paintlayers with careful consideration. With the consolidaton of the naturally aged distemper wallpainting in the winter-church of Zwingli-Church in Berlin–Friedrichshain, it is exemplarily shown how to accomplish this complex task and fulfiling all specific requirements of the mentioned wallpainting.
