Abstract: Since 2010, working campaigns of the Institute of Conservation at University of Applied Arts Vienna take place at the Patan Royal Palace, Nepal. Due to this work, all treatments applied through the campaigns are evaluated. Improvements are requested in terms of the joint mortar and rapid reoccurring biological colonization. Thus, the local available building materials are tested in order to prove their usability, concerning material composition and salt content. Alternative mortar samples with different formulas are prepared, artificial weathered and evaluated. In addition, a maintenance program for the locals is worked out, including possibilities to lower the rate of spreading of biological colonization.
