Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The museum Carnuntinum, located in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, houses an impressive collec-tion of archaeological findings from the ancient town of Carnuntum. Among these are seven fragmentarily preserved mosaic floors, which have been salvaged around 1900 and are dated to the third or fourth century AD. The thesis elaborates a detailed survey of these mosaics. Scientific analysis referring to technology and materials, both primary and secon¬dary will be undertaken. Further the state of condition will be recorded. An exemplary conser¬vation is going to be executed on one of the fragments due to its exceptional quality and bad state of preservation.
