Overview:

Abstract: 94 golden bonnets and traditional hats from the Collection Kinz of the Vorarlberger Landesmuseum were being prepared for storage as well as for display on exhibition.
An overview about the history of headdresses is given to establish an understanding for the variety and the shapes which are often based on regional differences. A survey was established in order to devise proposals for conservation/restoration, storage and display. A main aspect for treatment was given to the combination of different materials such as textile, metal, glass, wood and paper. A plug-in-system made of materials which are suitable for storage was developed with special attention to ribbons and other component parts of the objects. This can be applied to the remaining collection of bonnets and hats of the Museum and can serve as an example to other collections.
