Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Besides artists paints industrial produced house paints have been widely used in artworks of the 20th and 21st century. Oil-modified alkydpaints belong to the category of House Paints. The British artist Gary Hume is using this group of paints mainly in his works. The Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg owns four paintings by Hume. They have been analysed due to their technical built up as well as their current condition. Referring to the four paintings, technical characteristics and Hume´s working process have been analysed. Thereby the research focuses the use of oil-modified alkydpaints as well as the phenomenon often described as blooming.
