Julia Nastke: Studies on brown discolorations on paper involving the Maillardreaction Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:
Abstract: One of endogenous and exogenous causes for foxing on paper can be the Maillardreaction. This reaction built browning-products with reducing sugars and amino acids – which can be formed by abiotic and biotic processes in historic papers.
Investigations showed that the chemicals compounds stay in the papermaterial after bleaching and insufficient watering. Therefore the Colorreversion can be cause by the compounds of the Maillardreaction. A longer watering process after bleaching was tested positive for reducing the Colorreversion caused by the Maillardreaction. Practical instructions for Paperconservators and Paperrestaurators contains also in this thesis.
