Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Two historical maps from the 16th and the 17th century from Museum Bad Muender are very significant for the history of the place that is shown on them. For the purpose of repair by one unknown person the maps were glued onto fabric and laminated with self-adhesive foil on the front side.
This master’s thesis puts the main emphasis on conservational-scientific considerations on delamination and identification of the most efficient and effective separation method of self-adhesive foils from the map. On one side it focuses on the analysis of the literature about the current state of research and on the other side on the practical tests on appropriate dummies. Innovative and modern methods by use of atmospheric pressure plasma in cooperation with INNOVENT e.V. technology development Jena will be tested besides classical delamination methods. After that the recommendations about conservation and restoration measures based on the findings of this study will be derived.
