Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The master’s thesis is on the examination and assessment of the eight late gothic, polychrome sculptures of
prophets from the Cologne Town Hall regarding the origination and changes. The manufacturing process and
the history of the sculptures until the 20th century are depicted in a reconstructive way and illustrated in the
context of the building history of the Cologne Town Hall. The new dating in 1430/1440th of the sculpture
group based on the results of the dendrochronological examinations. The results of the polychrome surface,
applied brocade and tin foil contribute to a revaluation of technological aspects. A concept for aesthetic
improvement of the intensively revised sculpture group is being discussed. Possibilities to visualize
polychrome surfaces in three dimensional models were illustrated.
