Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The practical part of this diploma paper includes the accomplishment and documentation of the conservation and restoration of the painting “Gebirgslandschaft” painted by August Wilhelm Julius Ahlborn. The impression of this distinguished painting was harshly affected by numerous deformations of the canvas, a tear with loose paint and paint losses along it, not to mention a very dirty and stained surface.
The conservation treatment included the consolidation of the loose paint, a thread by thread tear mending with sturgeon glue and wheat starch paste, the treatments of the deformations of the textile support and the varnish removal with a solvent gel. Lost painting spots were filled and retouched. Finally the painting received a new varnish made by a natural resin which was sprayed.
The theoretical part of the diploma paper includes the analysis of the technical findings of another four paintings made by the artist from the Staatlichen Museen Preußischer Kulturbesitz Berlin and two from the Stiftung Preußischer Schlösser und Gärten Berlin- Brandenburg.
