Overview:

Abstract: The practical part of this thesis focuses on the artistique technique, conservation and restoration of the semicircular panel painting of Lucas Cranach the Elder. It shows the Holy Trinity from 1515/20. The semicircular panel painting used to belong to the main altar of the church in Ehrenberg nearby Hohenstein, Saxony. Nowadays the altar shrine does, due to war destruction, not exist anymore. The panel painting is now owned by the SKD Skulpturensammlung.
Due to the great number of past restorative measures on the panel painting the theoretical part of this thesis focuses on the panel picture’s history.
