Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The work´s subject is the technological investigation, conservation and restoration of a polychrome wooden reliefs of the Skulpturensammlung of the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin. The relief´s condition is determined by revisions of both the sculptor and the polychromie. Traces of previous restorations cause a heterogeneous and disturbed appearance of the artwork. The practical work focused on the removal of more recent overpainting and the retouching of voids, which made the medieval polychrome readable again. The reconstruction of two coats of arms and the research of associated families provided evidence for former owners.
