Abstract: The purpose of this study is to make a comparative statement about the physical properties of parchment exposed to moisture. To testify this properties there will be not only exmaples, but also the treating of deformations in common literature evaluated. The aim of this study was to investigate the structural change of parchment due to the influence of moisture. Based on a given example of a restoration in the Museum of Hamburg History (MHG) similar or refractory experiences are collected. To test the literature exmaples a practical sample is performed: The moisture absorption of parchment will be compared to the previously viewed literature. The results of the literature search and investigation are finally compared with the restoration in the MHG. The aim of this was giving an idea on treating similar parchment objects with moisture, based on the completed investigation.
