Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: “Glaskatzen – Mülleimer der Hoffnung“is a contemporary installation by Urs Fischer from the collection of the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. It consists of several wooden base panels with glass toppings, that are arranged on an area rug and are illuminated by a unidirectional spotlight. During the recent deinstallation of the artwork a damage occurred, as one of the included glass panes came loose and broke into pieces. Based on research concerning the materiality and context of the artwork, multiple approaches are open for discussion. The including theme of decay and the artists intent must be considered in order to decide upon a conservation concept. Therefore, the artist is contacted over the Urs Fischer Studio. Due to the artists wish it is decided to replicate the original glass pane exactly. The future reconnection with the base panel will be given through the addition of a groove that provides a mechanical support for the glass pane.
