Diana Henning: Der Kunststein von Schloss Altenstein – Konservierung und Restaurierung von Betonwerkstein Back
Overview:

Abstract: The following thesis contains a hypothesis concerning the iconographic interpretation of the
artificial stone elements at the castle of Altenstein as well as influencing factors on this work of art.
The technology used to create this work of art as well as the materials used are explained. The
chemical composition and important physical properties of the used concrete are described.
The paper also looks at the history of the material hard rammed and the concrete bonding process.
Details about the integration of the artificial stone elements in the architecture and facts about
the concrete reinforcement are mentioned.
With the acquired knowledge, I was not only able to detect the low level of damage and its causes,
but also explain the good quality of the concrete used.
Comprehensive knowledge is essential for developing and carrying out reconstruction measures
on the artificial stone elements at the castle of Altenstein professionally and in order to preserve
their original aesthetic and material composition for following generations.
