| Abstract: | The neobaroque salon decor wallpaper manufactured by Délicour Paris & Cie. has been part of the collection of the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte since 1909. The value of the wallpaper, which was made in 1860, is due to the applied imitation‐technique that shows marquetrys in the style of André Charles Boulle. It also creates a satin finished wood panelling on paper. The thesis deals with the background of these imitation‐techniques and examines the manufacturing process of the salon decor wallpaper as an example. In the course of this investigation not only possible templates and their implementation in printing processes will be discussed, but also the materials used. In addition to that, the historical fixing of the wallpaper to the wall will be explored. Different types of damage and inventory mapping support this examination. All results will be incorporated into a restoration concept, which also considers a possible presentation of the wallpaper in the museum context, i.e the relocation of an entire room.
