| Abstract: | The eagle spreading across 4 meters was secured from the “Felsentor” gate and afterwards stored in the Fachhochschule Potsdam. The sculpture showing severel structural and surface damage, portrays an eagle with spread wings catching a snake. Three major damages are of focus in this Bachelor Thesis. Firstly the microoganism damaged plinth, secondly the mechanically damaged sculpture formed of zinc plates located above the plinth and thirdly the porous, multilayer coating which detaches itself in big slices from the bird and snake. After evaluating the requirements of a new location of assembly, the structural problems of the plinth are theoretically solved. Furthermore this Thesis discusses the consolidation of the coating by using synthetic resins. Lastly the reassembly of loosened snake parts is mentioned. |
