In the course of renewing the roof and the renovation of the exhibition rooms of the Landesgalerie in Hanover, the buffering textile wall coverings are being removed. By using the relevant literature on the subject, it will be explained and summarised that hanging paintings on a cold outer wall without extra protection can have negative effects on the art objects. Dummies were used to measure the climate on-site to show the specific situation at the Landesgalerie. The analysis of the data supports the claim that paintings should not be presented right in front of cold outer walls. In the following, suggestions for solutions of the problem will be presented. Since the data shows slightly differing results depending on the location, further investigations should be made by experts.
