Overview:

Abstract: The aim of this bachelor thesis is the documentation and conservation of an archaeological book from the early modern period. The object was recovered as a soil find in the community Sülstorf by the State Office for the Preservation of Cultural and Historical Monuments Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2011. In order to be able to classify the state of preservation, a comprehensive object detection is carried out by means of various scientific analysis methods and imaging procedures, which allow a maximum acquisition of information of the object. A discussion of necessary restoration treatments then ensues, which results in a long-term preservation of the object through preventive conservation. Here, recommendations are formulated for adequate packaging and storage suitable for light and climate technology.
