Carolin Giersch: The controlled drying of a mesolithic composite object from Krzyż Wielkopolski - reconciling diverging requirements of four organic materials and testing a holistic treatment Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The present study deals with the analysis of a
complex composite object for the purpose of
developing a concept for the conservation of the material. The concrete occasion is a find from the
Polish Krzyz Wielkopolski. It is an object of purely
organic composition and of Mesolithic date,
which is in a completely water-saturated state
and has been stored in tap water since its
recovery. It is a combination of four different
organic materials, which are based on specific
states of preservation and also pose specific
requirements for conservation. The objective of
this work is to explore the possibilities for
transferring the four materials into a dried state.
The possible applications as well as their
advantages and risks for the individual materials
and the entire complex will be discussed.
